When a tooth is decayed or broken we can restore
it by removing the decay and then filling the
cavity.
Silver fillings are composed
of an amalgam of metals which are extruded
to fill the prepared cavity and then trimmed
to fit with the other teeth. The amalgam sets
quickly to form a solid “plug” with
similar properties to an enamel tooth.
White fillings are formed
by applying layers of white composite material.
Each layer is “cured” by
strong light to help it bond to the surface below.
By choosing a shade of composite material that
most closely matches your own tooth colour the
filling blends in and becomes unnoticeable.
Wherever possible
we will try to provide you with the filling you
want but in some circumstances only amalgam or
composite fillings will be recommended.
