Cutsom-made dental veneers to achieve remarkable results… fast

One of the most satisfying aspects of our work at St Peter’s Lodge is helping people to feel more confident about themselves. Sometimes, this might involve a complex series of treatments, but on other occasions a relatively simple procedure, carried out with exceptional care and attention, is all that’s needed. Dental veneers are an excellent example of this.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front side of teeth to improve their overall appearance.  People who have irregular or discoloured front teeth tend to be particularly well suited to this treatment.

Dental veneers can be used to address a range of commonly-encountered problems. Made of either thin plastic resin or porcelain, they can in some ways be compared to false fingernails for the teeth!

How your veneers will be placed

First of all, the tooth is prepared to allow space for the veneer to be bonded onto its front surface. The bonding process is carried out with a tooth-coloured resin cement.

You may need to return to us more than once to complete treatment.

Patients should be aware that fitting veneers is usually an irreversible process because it’s necessary to remove tooth tissue to accommodate the veneer.

Making sure your teeth look as natural as possible

Our philosophy is that cosmetic dentistry should always look and feel natural. When preparing your dental veneers, we’ll take great care to select the precise shade of porcelain to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth, or to lighten front teeth, making sure that the veneer sits naturally alongside the rest of your teeth.

    Frequently asked questions:

What Are Dental Veneers And How Do They Work?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that cover the front surface of your teeth. They are commonly made of porcelain or composite resin and are used to improve the outer appearance of your teeth. Veneers are a great solution to fix teeth that are chipped, discoloured, or misaligned. They can also close gaps between your teeth or make them look longer. Dental veneers are permanent restorations, as we must shave off some of your enamel to help the veneer adhere to your tooth.

What Is The Process For Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are a multi-step process but can last for many years when properly cared for. Here’s an overview of what to expect:

    • Prepping Time: First, we’ll prepare your teeth by removing small amounts of enamel from the outer surfaces. Prepping is required to aid adhesion and ensure the veneers fit properly and look natural.
    • Making An Impression: Next, we will take an impression of your teeth as a guide for creating your veneers. We will send this impression to a lab, which usually takes a few weeks. During this time, you’ll wear a set of temporary veneers.
    • Completing The Treatment: Once your permanent veneers are ready, we will bond them to your teeth using a special adhesive. This process is usually completed after one visit, so afterwards you’ll be able to enjoy your new smile.

How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?

Dental veneers typically last for 10-15 years before they need replacing. The exact lifespan of dental veneers can vary depending on several factors, such as the type of veneers used, how well you care for them, and your overall oral health. Good oral hygiene and frequent dental visits ensure that your dental veneers last as long as possible.

Am I Suitable For Dental Veneers?

You’re a great candidate for dental veneers if you have healthy teeth and gums but are unhappy with the appearance of your smile. While factors that might not make you a suitable candidate include:

    • Poor Oral Health: If you have suffered from gum disease, tooth decay, or other oral health issues, you may not be a good candidate for veneers.
    • Weak Or Brittle Teeth: Dental veneers are attached to the outer surfaces of your teeth using a strong adhesive. However, if you have weak or brittle teeth, the veneers may not bond properly and could break or fall off.
    • Bruxism: If you have a habit of clenching or grinding your teeth, you may not be suitable for dental veneers. This is because the constant pressure exerted on the veneers can cause them to crack or break.
    • Misalignment: Dental veneers can improve the overall appearance of your teeth, but they cannot correct severe misalignment or bite problems.

    Can Dental Veneers Be Removed?

Dental veneers are irreversible because we must prep the tooth by removing enamel to accommodate the veneer.

How Much Do Dental Veneers Cost?

At St. Peter’s Lodge, the cost of dental veneers starts at £950. We understand this is a significant expense. That’s why we offer finance plans to help make payments more manageable.

    Are Dental Veneers Painful?

Dental veneers are a minimally-invasive treatment that causes minor discomfort. During the procedure, we will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area around your teeth to ensure you don’t feel any pain. You may experience some sensitivity after the anaesthetic wears off, but this should resolve itself within a few days. If you have any worries about discomfort during this procedure, don’t hesitate to talk to us at your consultation, so we can address any concerns you may have.

Are There Any Risks Associated With Dental Veneers?

Yes, there are some potential risks associated with dental veneers. These include sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures, tooth decay, and gum disease. Veneers can also chip or break if not correctly cared for. During your consultation, we’ll discuss all potential risks with you in more detail, so you can make a well-informed decision about whether this treatment is right for you.

    Can Dental Veneers Be Whitened?

Yes, we can whiten dental veneers, but not in a traditional sense. Dental veneers differ from natural teeth because veneers are made from porcelain or composite resin. As such, they cannot be whitened using typical teeth whitening methods, such as bleaching agents. Instead, we must replace the veneers with new, whiter shells.

Are There Any Alternatives To Dental Veneers?

If you’re searching for a temporary alternative to dental veneers, here are a few options to consider. Dental bonding involves layering tooth-coloured resin to the outer surfaces of your teeth to improve their appearance. Teeth whitening can help to remove stains and discolouration from your teeth. Dental crowns are a more extensive treatment that involves placing a cap over the entire tooth to improve its appearance and strength. At your consultation, we can discuss the best options for you depending on your specific wishes and needs.
